Unicorn

The name of the unicorn means one-horned, so in its broadest meaning could include any type of animal whose usual anatomy includes a single horn. However, the rhinoceros is often excluded.

Typical unicorns in fantasy are horses or other, often deerlike, hoofed mammals. They are almost always pure white, with a straight spiral horn in the middle of their foreheads.

Typical fantasy unicorns often have a special relationship with virginal human girls and are associated with purity in other ways - for example, they can make water safe to drink, heal or cure disease, or are immune to magic.
