Psychopomp

A psychopomp is a figure in some religions and mythologies who collects the souls of dying or newly-dead people and ushers them to the afterlife (heaven, hell, etc) or to judgement.

Sometimes psychopomps are death deities, or have the dual roles of guide and judge. Sometimes they are merely delivery boys.

Dogs make good psychopomps.
