What it does have is plenty of superstition and bad magoscience. What is missing is the concept of higher, immortal powers, as opposed to the concept of very powerful mortal powers or capricious fairies.
Various creatures are believed to be better at certain things than people are, but they aren't believed to be supreme beings -- for example, nobody worships the greater lion for its swiftness and strength, or the wild dog for its magical voice.
