Spiritism in Eodea is a label for any conscious dealing with spirits or ghosts. This is most cases involves magic.

1. Summoning
2. Calling or Finding

1. Summoning

A feat typical of orcish magic, "summoning" a spirit does not call an existing entity, but creates a being from raw spirit energy. The characteristics and abilities are determined during the working and cannot be changed later. A typical example would be a guardian spirit that scares away anything that is not an orc or one of their domesticated animals from a settlement. Their intelligence is closer to a trained animal than to a sentinent.

A summoned ghost is formed according to the memory of a dead person.

A summoned spirit or ghost may be expected to last several weeks or months, if it is mostly waiting to be needed, but can be kept "alive" longer if provided with energy. Summoning is a complicated task and requires a lot of energy.

2. Calling or Finding

Spirits occasionally form spontaneously. Sensitive people (often specialised psions?) may attract or find them and attempt to communicate with them, either to animate them to help in some way, or to disappear.

Ghosts are liked to the death of a sentinent (or, rarely, other animal). It is not universally agreed if this is merely an accumulation of emtions and memories held together by magic, or a soul or similar actual part of the departed that should be on the way to some paradise or to reincarnation. Usually the aim of dealing with a ghost is to get it to disappear.
